If celebrating International Women’s Day by watching high-quality, cinematic porn of a ’60s sex party sounds like your idea of a good time, then you’re in luck. That is if you’re in Calgary.
On Wednesday, March 8, adult filmmaker Erika Lust brings “A Night of Lust” to Calgary’s Globe Cinema.
The erotic film event is in collaboration with A League of Their Own, a film screening series that showcases female directors, and previously featured films The Farewell directed by Lulu Wang, and Cleo from 5 to 7 directed by Agnes Vard.
But for International Women’s Day, the series will get steamier by embracing the power of sexual fantasy and erotic storytelling for the first time.
XConfessions makes North American debut
“A Night of Lust” will show six explicit short films directed by Lust for her XConfession video series, which brings to life sexual fantasies submitted anonymously.
The March 8 event will also include the on-screen premiere of the latest XConfessions release “Dirty Martini Sex Party”.
Lust told SexForEveryBody.com the XConfessions selection of films for the evening “aim to inspire the audience concerning their relationship with pleasure and sex: from sex parties to hot neighbors and steamy queer sex, this screening will tap into the diversity of human desires and fantasies.”
“Our mission is to inspire people to redefine their relationship with porn. Encouraging them to see it as something enjoyable that has the power to raise crucial questions and a shared debate about how we live sex, intimacy, and consent in society and our everyday lives.”
Lust in Canada
Erika Lust decided to hold the event in Calgary after the successful premiere of “Porncorn: A Night of Lust” in Barcelona last December. (Just in case you are like me and misread it the first time, that was PORNcorn, not POPcorn!)
“To see such a big audience watching porn on a big screen the same as they would any other movie (as it only happened during the short Golden Age of porn in the 70s) was truly rewarding and inspiring,” she said.
The sold-out event at the prestigious Barcelona cinema the Phenomena Experience hosted nearly 500 people. Lust now wants to host more cinematic porn events around the globe.
Lust says she also hopes to sell out The Globe’s 300 seats in Calgary. She also credits A League of Their Own organizer Morgan Cairns for inviting her to make her first XConfessions theater screening in North America.
“It gave my team and me much insight into what people seek in sexually explicit content, and they enjoyed it so much that they asked for more! That’s why we are committed to creating more and more of these spaces worldwide for people to experience the beauty of adult cinema together.”
According to Cairns, A League of Their Own began as a way to celebrate female directors. “Not only is Erika Lust an incredible filmmaker, but her work is also empowering and groundbreaking, both on the screen and behind the scenes.”
The upcoming screening will not be Erika Lust’s first experience working with Canadians.
“We’ve had a relationship with Canada for some time, collaborating with outstanding directors such as Bruce LaBruce,” said Lust.
“However, this is our first time bringing our screening program to the country. To do it in a space such as A League of Their Own, which celebrates women+ directors, on the 8th of March of all dates just felt right for us at ERIKALUST!”
