Now that MysteryVibe vibrators are recognized as medical devices by two U.S. federal agencies, the company aims to make its pricey products easier to buy.

In 2022, the sexual wellness brand updated its checkout process to enable consumers with a health savings account (HSA) or a flexible savings account (FSA) to purchase its FDA-registered smart vibrators. FSAs and HSAs are pre-tax accounts people can use to pay for expenses related to healthcare.

“This is unique within the pleasure category, and a result of 9 years of deep research with leading doctors in US and Europe to create highly effective vibrating devices that address big topics in sexual health like pelvic pain and ED [erectile dysfunction],” said MysteryVibe CEO Soumyadip Rakshit, who holds a Ph.D. in Biometrics.

At the time of writing, MysteryVibe Poco, Crescendo 2, and Tenuto 2 can be bought using these funds. It does not apply to pre-order-only MysteryVibe vibrators Tenuto Mini, Legato, and Molto, but they are expected to qualify once they officially launch later this year.

“Being available to purchase using FSA/HSA funds also makes our products more accessible to a wider group of people who might not otherwise be able to afford high-quality devices,” added Rakshit.

MysteryVibe vibrators as ‘Medical vibrating devices’

In order to qualify, MysteryVibe vibrators first had to become FDA-registered medical devices and eligible under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Publication 502 (2021), Medical and Dental Expenses.

“The fact that our products will be listed alongside mainstream medical offerings within the FSA/HSA database (like ibuprofen, breast pumps, blister cream, etc.) is a continued step forward in normalizing sexual health as a fundamental part of overall health,” said Rakshit.

In particular, the MysteryVibe vibrators are viewed as potential “Diagnostic Devices” for diagnosing or treating illness and disease.

While Raskshit says medical vibrating devices have been available prior on HSA/FSA, MysteryVibe’s devices are clinical in nature and not in the sexual wellness or pleasure spaces.

The company adds that it designs its sexual health devices based on medical and consumer research. MysteryVibe has also worked with several experts to guide product design, including Chief Medical Officer Professor Prokar Dasguptan, an expert in Robotic Surgery and Urological Innovation at King’s College London.

While the Crescendo 2, Tenuto 2, and Poco are available to buy, the Tenuto Mini, Molto, and Legato MysteryVibe vibrators are only available for pre-order—and not yet with FSA or HSA debit cards.

Bendable vibrator Crescendo 2 from MysteryVibe is linked to relieving pelvic pain, studies show.

An updated model of its first bendable vibrator, the Crescendo 2 is nearly 9 inches long and designed to mimic the feel of fingers. It holds shape when bent into different positions, which you can tailor to stimulate precise areas of your body.

Results from a study published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine in April 2022 also revealed it may help relieve pelvic pain. It was based on the principle that vibrations can increase blood flow and relieve pain if vibrations are delivered accurately to the right spots.

Specifically, the study focused on women with genito-pelvic pain and penetration disorder (GPPPD). This umbrella term refers to ongoing and significant pelvic pain that lasts more than six months that can make penetrative sex difficult. It’s estimated that at least one in ten women experience this chronic condition, which includes both sexual pain disorders dyspareunia and vaginismus.

After using the Crescendo 2, study participants said their pain symptoms improved up to five times.

The findings were also presented at the Sexual Medicine Society of North America’s (SMSNA) 22nd Annual Fall Scientific Meeting.

MysteryVibe Poco is designed as a smaller version of the Crescendo 2 vibrator. Both models are bendable and able to adapt to different bodies, but Poco is nearly 3 inches shorter at under 6 inches (15cm).

Its smaller more compact size may appeal if you want something more discreet or to travel with. Its girth ranges from 1 inch (2.5cm) at the tip and 1.6 inches (4cm) at the base.

You can read more about the differences between the two bendable vibrators in our MysteryVibe Poco review.

The MysteryVibe Poco can be bent at two different points along its flat turquoise shaft. And its flexible form holds shape so it can keep hitting the right places while in use.

If you enjoy deep and rumbly vibrations, this may be a good choice packed into a smaller package. The Poco boasts two motors in addition to 16 intensity levels and 8 pre-set patterns. They can be controlled on Poco itself or with the MysteryVibe app.

Tenuto 2 and Tenuto Mini vibrators for penises

MysteryVibe’s wearable penis vibrators, Tenuto 2 and Tenuto Mini, are designed to encourage stronger and longer-lasting erections. Again, the benefits are linked to increased blood flow created by targeted vibrations delivered to the penis.

MysteryVibe Tenuto Mini is part of the MysteryVibe vibrators for penises product line.
MysteryVibe’s Tenuto Mini is designed for people with sensitive scrotums and perineums.

The Tenuto MysteryVibe vibrators can also be worn during intercourse to stimulate both partners at the same time.

In a clinical study of post-surgery colon cancer services, the use of the Tenuto 2 vibrator was correlated with improved erectile dysfunction symptoms by two times. The results were presented at the prestigious sexual medicine conference held by the European Society for Sexual Medicine) ESSM in 2022.

People with a sensitive scrotum and perineum may opt for the Tenuto Mini version of the Tenuto vibrator. This isn’t of the size or girth of one’s penis, but rather as I said, how sensitive one’s genital region is to pressure or vibrations.

The smaller and more compact design of the Tenuti Mini vibrator does not extend to those areas, and the flexible design adapts to your penis to improve blood flow.

Tenuto Mini is currently available for pre-order at a discounted price of $183, with delivery expected in Summer 2023.

Legato vulva vibrator

mysteryvibe legato vibrator
The MysteryVibe Legato external vibrator can be used during penetrative sex to encourage lubrication.

At first glance, it looks like a penis ring, but the circular MysteryVibe Legato is actually a flexible labia and vulva sex toy.

Since it focuses on external stimulation alone without requiring to insert anything into the vagina, the vulva vibrator addresses an important need for women suffering from arousal disorder or dryness, says Rashkit.

Yet it is not just for solo use. The space in the middle allows for penetrative sex with a partner while Legato supplies continual 360° stimulation on the clitoris and labia. For this reason, MysteryVibe suggests it will help people who may experience vaginal dryness or pain during intercourse.

But since nine out of ten women need external stimulation for arousal or to reach orgasm, adds Rashkit, it could appeal to a wider demographic.

The MysteryVibe Legato can be used in the shower and comes powered by four anatomically placed motors. The labia vibrator is available for pre-order, with delivery expected in Summer 2023. It is currently on sale at $235.00.

The sex toy brand boasts it can deliver anal orgasms due to its strong vibrations and anatomically placed motor. Like all MysteryVibe vibrators, the Molto will pair with the MysteryVibe app.

The MysteryVibe Molto has a large base for easy use and is ergonomically designed to be compact and slim for beginners.

Delivery is expected in Summer 2023, as is the case for the other MyseryVibe Vibrators available for pre-order. It is on sale for $153 at the time of writing.

As mentioned earlier, FSA (Flexible Spending Account) and HSA (Health Savings Account) are both tax-advantaged accounts in the United States that can be used to save money for healthcare expenses.

In recent years, HSA accounts have become more popular as they offer greater flexibility and tax advantages. Some of these include such as tax-deductible contributions, tax-free withdrawals for qualified medical expenses, and tax-free interest and investment earnings.

However, the main difference between FSA and HSA is that FSA accounts are offered by an employer and can only be used for a specific plan year, while HSA accounts are individually owned and can be carried over from year to year.

Another difference is that FSA accounts require you to use the money in the account by the end of the plan year, or you will lose the money.

For that reason, buying MysteryVibe FSA eligible vibrators with a FSA account has time constraints. In contrast, buying Mysteryvibe vibrators using HSA accounts works differently. For example, money in HSA accounts can accumulate over time and is not subject to the “use it or lose it” rule.

Both FSA and HSA accounts are widely available, but it depends on your employer and your health insurance plan. Many employers offer FSA accounts as part of their benefits package, but not all employers offer HSA accounts.

In summary, FSA and HSA accounts both offer tax advantages for healthcare expenses, but the main differences lie in ownership, rollover rules, and accessibility. HSA accounts are generally considered more flexible and popular, but it ultimately depends on your individual circumstances and healthcare needs.
