A lot has changed for the Velvet Thruster’s flagship thrusting dildo since the company gave me a demonstration three years ago.

I saw the lilac thrusting dildo extend up to three inches in four different head styles. At the time, if you wanted to try out one of them, you’d have to buy each as a distinct thrusting sex toy, costing a couple of hundred dollars at least.

Today, all dildo four head styles, (plus one more with a curved tip), are exchangeable and can work on the same base.

Now called the “Prime Series,” the thrusting dildo’s new modular design expands accessibility options while simultaneously maintaining its powerful thrust.

When Velvet Thruster reached out to me to review the updated Prime series, I was especially excited because of its many customization options.

As mentioned above, there are five different dildo heads that can be exchanged to fit on one base. The dildo heads come in four color choices: lilac, black, mint, and red. The base comes in a choice of three colors: lilac, black, and white.

I chose the beaded thruster dildo head, Walter Prime, in black, and the penis dildo Sammie Prime in red. For the base, I chose white, so I feel like a kinky Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland.

What’s most exciting to me, however, is a thread input at the base of the thrusting dildo enables users to attach handles or a suction cup.

Dildo drops weight

The 2018 version of the Velvet Thruster, which I have in the non-detachable Jackie head in lilac, always struck me as heavy. Mind you, I have some joint issues, so weight matters to me.

On the other hand, when picking up the updated Prime, its weight is noticeably lighter. This is both the case with the larger Sammie penis dildo and the Walter head attached.

Weighing them, the earlier version came in at 1.6 lbs. (706g) while the new Prime thrusting dildo is 1.3 lbs. (578g). You might think dropping one-third of a pound in weight is nothing, but it’s not. In the previous design, the bulk of the sex toy’s weight was in the base. Now the thruster’s weight is more evenly dispersed throughout, making it much easier to pick up and handle.

The earlier version was marketed as a handheld sex toy, which may have been accurate for some, but was not a possibility for all. Now it much better lives up to this claim for a wider range of people.

Even though it dropped weight, it kept its powerful standout features from before and added some more.

How to hold the Velvet Thruster?

Let us count the ways…

The Velvet Thruster Prime series of thrusting dildos also offers accessories that aid in its ease of use.

At the very base of the sex toy, a threaded input allows users to screw in handles, one sold for long-reach needs the other for partner play, along with a suction-cup that makes the sex machine hands-free.

My favorite is the suction-cup dildo accessory. It holds the powered sex toy securely in place as it thrusts, both on walls and smooth floors. Be sure when removing the suction-cup dildo from a surface, you do so by gently lifting up part of the material from the side. That will let in air, so the suction is easily released from the surface.

The lightweight sex toy handles come in two designs: a long-reach handle and a partner handle. Both grips have an undulating surface, so while it is still smooth, it isn’t slippery.

I wouldn’t recommend anyone else do this, as it could void your warranty, but the threading size fits my tripod stand output perfectly, so some fun filming adventures may be ahead! It makes me wonder how current medical gripping aids could integrate with the thrusting dildo. Again, I’m not recommending anyone use any non-Velvet Thruster products for both your own safety and warranty protection.

More accessible sex toy design features

The Velvet Thruster Prime still extends up to three inches and makes about 140 thrusts a minute at high power. As before, it has 10 adjustable speeds, a rechargeable battery, bendable shaft. It’s also water-resistant and made of medical-grade silicone.

So what’s new in the Velvet Thruster Prime.

I cannot understate how amazing this is: The updated Prime thrusting dildo works while plugged in and still charging!

The new sex toy design is also more accessible.

For example, the placement of the power button and the two increase/decrease buttons is far more intuitive. Before, all three buttons were placed on the very base in a circular arrangement. It was easy to confuse one for the other unless you have incredible tactile sensitivity.

Now the power button rests on its own near the motor, in an area that appears to resemble testicles. It looks cool to me. The intensity increase/decrease buttons are more distinct and far less easy to confuse. They are displayed on the opposite side and in a row.

But if you are looking for a whisper-quiet sex toy, this isn’t it. Both the earlier and current designs make about the same level of noise a max level, with a slight drop with the new design.

Final words

Considering the gains in accessibility for the Velvet Thruster Prime thrusting dildo series, I’m happy to recommend this sex toy to people seeking a penetrating and powered sex toy that’s adaptable to their needs. It works for both anal and vaginal entry, thanks to its five different exchangeable dildo head options.

Buying the base and one head is not cheap, but what you get is power and convenience (especially with the new feature of working while it charges). In total, it costs $280, and each additional dildo head will cost you $45.

The suction-cup dildo and sex toy handle accessories cost about $30 each. Altogether, the different features can get pricey and a gamble if you aren’t sure powered thrusting dildos are your thing. On the other hand, if you know what you like and it’s a modular and powered sex toy with different gripping features, the Velvet Thruster Prime is likely worth the buck.

In the near future, we’ll share a post rounding up sex toys with handles, powered and non-powered. Stay tuned as we’ll update you on their various features and price ranges.
