I love a good wand vibrator that delivers deep rumbly sensations.
So when the folks at Hot Octopuss offered to send me the new Pulse Queen in exchange for an honest review, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. It helped that I’d already had very good things to say about its AMO bullet vibrator.
Read on for my Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen review. I’ll share how it stands out from other wand vibrators and some potential drawbacks to consider.
Design of the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen
There’s something to be said about a good sex toy handle, and that’s what the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen provides, particularly for stimulating the vulva.
While most wand vibrators are shaped like a microphone—round on top with a cone-like handle—the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen subverts this tradition. Instead, its form factor is closer to that of an air-pulsating clitoral stimulator such as the Womanizer.
Personally, I love this design. The curved handle fits well in my hand, and can also work as a “lay-on” vibrator since it melds with the contours of my body. You don’t need to squeeze it in place between your legs either.
The positioning of the buttons on the handle also makes it easier to adjust the intensity or vibration patterns when in use. I can’t say the same for traditional microphone-like wand vibrators with buttons that may require some arm-reaching or wrist-twisting to access.
Even better: the buttons are clearly marked and easy to push, unlike other devices I’ve tried that I felt required unnecessary hand strength.
There are three buttons in total. The circular middle button turns on/off the wand vibrator after being held for three seconds. When on, press it once to switch between the 7 preset vibration patterns. The other two buttons are plus (+) and negative (-) signs, which increase or decrease the intensity respectively.
Most of the exterior is silicone, while the upper part of the handle, where the controls are, is ABS plastic. It is waterproof and can be used in the bath or shower.
It’s also smaller and lighter than your typical wand vibrator at 2.17 inches wide and 7.09 inches long (55mm x 80mm) and weighs 6.17 oz (175g).
The Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen’s wide rounded tip helps deliver deep, low-frequency vibrations.
Deep sensations
Although the design is similar to air-pulsating clitoral stimulators, their sensations are very different.
The Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen provides deep body-penetrating vibrations, which can be both relaxing and pleasurable.
Many of the 7 vibration modes provide a sense of movement, a perk of the company’s patented Pulse Plate technology. You can also adjust the frequency for different intensity levels.
Overall, the device delivers deep rumbly sensations that go beneath the skin. It can target your internal erogenous zones like the clitoris (most of which is located inside the body). You can also feel its oscillations spread to nearby muscles. Like I said, it can be relaxing, like a deep-tissue massage.
If you are looking for a more targeted, surface-level sensation, the Hot Octopuss AMO bullet vibrator would be a better match. Or a device that operates at a higher frequency range with a smaller tip.
Then there are your air-pulsating clitoral stimulators that provide targeted sensations that can feel like oral sex.
Noisy vibrations
If you are looking for a quiet wand vibrator, this one is not for you.
That being said, none of the wand vibrators that I have tried, including the Lovense Domi and the plug-in Magic Wand, are whisper-quiet. Power and pulsations often come with that trade-off. Yet if you know of a near-silent wand vibrator, I’d be delighted to hear about it.
Certain vibration modes are quieter than others. These are the ones that are less intense and powerful. Be warned, when I put the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen under my covers and closed my bedroom door, I could still hear it from the hall. Yet it wasn’t as loud as a plugged-in Magic Wand and think its sound could largely be muffed by playing some music.
Still, if noise level is a concern, you’ll want to think twice about whether this is the ideal device for you.
Final words
While I regularly receive offers to review sex toys, I normally turn them down unless there is some exciting tech involved or a feature I think I’ll particularly like.
So I’m certainly pleased about my choice to review the Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys external-use devices that deliver deep body-penetrating sensations. It also boasts a wonderfully unique design for a wand vibrator that may be more ergonomic and accessible for some users.
At US$99.95, the device is reasonably priced for its features and good quality.
I’ve previously shared my Hot Octopuss Amo review, which I wore out from frequent use. It lasted past its one-year warranty, so I have no complaints and was instead pleased with the device’s ability to endure. It’s early days for my Hot Octopuss Pulse Queen, but I have high hopes and will keep you updated.
